About Us

Latin American Geometric Abstraction
Since 1987

Art Nouveau Galería was founded in Maracaibo, Venezuela in 1987 by Elizabeth Hazim de Castillo and in 2010 they opened a branch in Wynwood, Miami, known as Art Nouveau Gallery. The gallery features modern and contemporary art focused on the geometric abstraction art, widely explored in Latin America, and ranges from emerging and mid-career artists to major historical art figures such as Cruz Diez and Jesús Rafael Soto.

These artists have exhibited widely in museums and institutions in Venezuela, but for many mid-career Venezuelan artists, Art Nouveau Gallery contributes to achieve international recognition, and they are regularly included in prestigious art fairs as Art Miami since 1992, FIA Caracas since 1999 and The Armory Show since 2012.

Art Nouveau Gallery works directly with their artists, coordinating exhibitions in Maracaibo and Miami galleries. Art Nouveau Gallery supports public art projects and publications, such as the Rafael Barrios project, where together with The Fund for Park Avenue and the City of New York Department of Parks and Recreation, Venezuelan artist Barrios installed 9 Sculptures in Park Avenue New York from 51st St to 67th St, from March to June, 2012.

Since its inception the gallery has sought to reveal challenging links that connect recognized modernists and younger artists from across Latin America, and to explore these relationships in monographic and thematic geometric abstraction exhibitions that bring such work to ever growing audiences in the United States.
